This magnificent mosaic depicts Neptune and Amphitrite.
At the top of the mosaic, it shows Neptune, The God of The Sea, rising out of the ocean with two nereids riding on dolphins at each side.At the bottom end of the mosaic, it shows Neptune and his wife, Amphitrite, riding in a chariot drawn by four magnificent sea horses. Its immense size is 1900mm high, 1400mm wide and 30mm deep, and is set in marble.
The weight is 300 kilos (or 47 stones!), and took three months to complete and using more than 60,000 tesserae.
